A 12-year-old boy attempting to drive from New South Wales to Western Australia by himself has been found by police after he made it almost a third of the way there.

Police pulled the boy over in Broken Hill on Saturday morning, some 1300km into his journey, after they noticed his bumper bar dragging along the ground.

He is believed to have driven from Kendall near Port Macquarie on the NSW east coast and was heading for Perth.

The boy was arrested and taken to Broken Hill police station.

Investigations are ongoing.

Here’s the length of the journey had it been completed.
