Western Australian police have charged a 10-year-old boy from Guildford with attempted armed robbery after he allegedly attempted to rob a truck driver.

Police allege that just after 4pm on Wednesday, the 28-year-male driver was sitting in his truck at a shopping centre on Great Eastern Highway in Midland, when he was approached by someone with a hood covering his head.

The would-be assailant pointed a handgun at the driver and made threats before pulling the trigger, which made a loud bang.

The alleged offender was apprehended by police a short time later. The handgun was found to be a toy cap gun.

The boy will appear in Perth Children’s Court today.
