Researchers at NBER noticed something not at all surprising when analysis Gallup’s happiness poll.People are happier on the weekend.

John Helliwell and Shun Wang of the University of British Columbia found specifically that people are happiest on Sunday and least happy on Thursday. Married people have more fun on weekends. People who hate their job also have more fun on the weekend.

On weekends and holidays, people report more happiness and laughter, much more enjoyment, much less worry and slightly less sadness and anger

The weekend effect is strongest for married people

The weekend effect is strongest for people in their 30s and 40s. It is weaker for young and old people, who don't work as much

People who hate their job report much more laughter and enjoyment on the weekend

People with a friendly work environment are happier than average during the week and during the weekend
