5 amazing sports jobs available now in Australia

The FIFA World Cup is expected to attract a television audience of more than 3.5 billion during the month-long tournament.

Ricky Fritsch, the Australian managing director of global job site Indeed, says it takes a massive behind-the scenes effort to stage such an event.

“Putting together an event like the World Cup, which is at the pinnacle of international sport, is an enormous undertaking that relies on a huge variety of skills,” he said.

“It’s an extreme example and looking closer to home we can see how sport at every tier in Australia presents a variety of interesting job opportunities. You don’t have to necessarily love sport, but it probably doesn’t hurt.”

Indeed has identified five jobs in sport available right now.

    Digital sports guru. Seven Television is in the market for a Digital Executive Producer (Sport) to drive an effective digital content and social media strategy across key brands. Must be a hands-on, self-motivated and energetic leader with overseas experience in premium sport such as grand slam tennis or Olympic events. Melbourne-based, the role commands a salary up to $194,000.

    Keep things on course. Mudgee Golf Club boasts one of country NSW’s leading golf courses with a famous par 3, 17th hole and it hosts many Golf NSW events. The club is looking for a general manager to run its operations. A focus on developing people, ability to grow the business and exceed targets are essential skills. An interest in golf desirable but not essential.

    Aussie rules beckons. AFL SportsReady is seeking a senior project officer for its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs to lead the review, analysis and improvement of education and employment services. It is a dynamic and challenging role suited to someone who is passionate about making a difference. Salary range $82,500-$87,500. Located in Abbotsford, Melbourne.

    Run a rugby club. West Harbour Rugby Club at Concord in NSW has a position for a contract business administrator to work in a multicultural and family-friendly environment. A busy hands-on role includes managing all club events and responsibility for the club’s administration systems. Work closely with the board and sport director. Ability to work Saturday’s in season and two years prior experience preferred. Salary to $5,000 per month.

    Follow the Sun(s). The Gold Coast Suns Football Club is hiring a partnership executive. The executive will be responsible for managing relationships with the club’s key commercial partners. This will include supporting the execution of match day activities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategic account management and a degree in business-marketing or related discipline.
