The US just lost the Ryder Cup after blowing a massive 10-6 lead coming into the final day.It ties for the worst collapse in Ryder Cup history.

It came down to Steve Stricker against Martin Kaymer. Stricker needed to win the 18th hole, but he blew his approach shot well past the hole, and Kaymer came up with a clutch two-putt to win it.

But the collapse really came earlier in the day, when Luke Donald, Ian Poulter, Rory McIlroy, and Paul Lawrie pulled Europe into striking distance at 10-9. Tiger Woods was lurking in the anchor spot if Stricker could have tied Kaymer, but ultimately it didn’t come to that.

Here’s the winning putt:

EARLIER:

Steve Stricker has to win the 18th hole against Martin Kaymer right now, or Europe wins. Tiger Woods and Francesco Molinari are all square entering the 17th, and Tiger needs to win one of his remaining two holes for the US to win.

So basically, things are dire, and this collapse is stunning.

EARLIER:

The US entered Sunday with a comfy 10-6 lead in the Ryder Cup.

It’s now 10-10 after a furious European rally this afternoon. Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Paul Lawrie, and Ian Poulter all won their matches.

There are 8 matches left, and the USA needs 4.5 points from those matches to win. The USA is up in three, Europe is up in two, and three are tied.

So as it stands, the US would win 14.5.-13.5, but there’s a long way to go.

We’ll be here with updates and screenshots as we head toward a conclusion…
