Let’s face it, when celebrities date each other, it often doesn’t work out. We all saw the debacles of Ashton Kutcher vs. Demi Moore, Alec Baldwin vs. Kim Basinger and Kim Kardashian vs. Kris Humphries.
But when celebrities date the normal folk, things sometimes end up better.
Just look at the 30-plus-year marriage between Jeff Bridges and his wife Susan Geston; or the love of Meryl Streep and her husband Don Gummer.
Looks like us civilians have a chance after all.
In 2003, 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Bourne' star Matt Damon met Luciana Barroso at a bar in Miami while filming his comedy 'Stuck on You.'
Barroso was working as a bartender. Damon was dragged there by friends from the movie set. The Oscar-winning actor now has four daughters with Barroso and the couple has been married since 2005.
'Desperate Housewives' star Marcia Cross was made the first move on now-husband Tom Mahoney. The actress spotted Mahoney, a stockbroker, at an L.A. flower shop in 2004 and left her number with the store owner.
Two years later, the couple got married.
When asked by People Magazine about her beauty regimen, Cross said her husband was her best product. 'I think that beauty comes from being happy and connected to the people we love, and his love makes me feel beautiful.'
'Grey's Anatomy' star McDreamy, aka Patrick Dempsey, met his wife Jillian Fink when he scheduled an appointment at her salon with her. Apparently the hair stylist didn't believe it was the real Dempsey until he walked in the door.
The two were immediately attracted to each other, Dempsey says, but they waited three years before going on a date because they were both in other relationships.
Dempsey still makes regular appointments with his wife at the salon. 'It's like our date night when we work together because we can talk and don't have our three kids around.'
Before meeting education activist Christine Marinoni in 2002 at an education rally, Cynthia Nixon was with English professor Danny Mozes. The couple even had two kids together.
After their split in 2003, the 'Sex and the City' star began dating Marinoni in 2004 and the two have been together ever since.
Nixon created some controversy when asked about her sexual identity. She said, 'In terms of sexual orientation, I don't feel I've changed … I'm just a woman in love with another woman.'
The couple had their first child together February of 2011.
Rebecca Gleeson was a publicist for an Australian TV network (and daughter to the country's chief justice) when she first started dating 'Star Trek' and 'Munich' star Eric Bana.
The two met in 1995 and married just two years later. Bana proposed while on a trip he won for being crowned 'Bachelor of the Year' in Cleo Magazine.
For 15 years, the couple (who have two kids) has made each other laugh all day. 'And I don't mean chuckle -- I can make her really laugh,' Bana says.
In an interview with Reader's Digest, Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges recalls his first meeting and subsequent romance with Susan Geston whom he met while she was working as a waitress/maid on the set of Bridges' film 'Rancho Deluxe.'
'It took me all day to finally get up the nerve to ask her out. And she said no.'
Obviously, the relationship ended up working out and the couple has been together for 35 years. But Bridges says he knew after one week of shooting that he was in love and that Geston would be his wife.
While shooting the 2003 Best Picture nominee 'Seabiscuit,' Tobey Maguire met the daughter of Universal Studios chief Ronald Meyer.
Jennifer Meyer, who is a jewelry designer, and Maguire dated for four years before getting married. The two welcomed a baby in between their courtship and then one after they were hitched.
While working on the 2001 film 'The Mexican' with Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts met and fell in love with cameraman Danny Moder. Only problem was he was married and she was seeing actor Benjamin Bratt.
Nevertheless, the two got married in 2002 after Moder's divorce was finalised. They now have three children together.
During the premiere of her new movie 'Mirror, Mirror,' Roberts told reporters that the reason she looks so youthful is her husband. 'It's just happiness and the love of a good man,' Roberts said. 'I think that keeps you. I've got my Prince Charming, I'm good.'
The comic genius behind '30 Rock' met composer Jeff Richmond while the two were trying to make a name for themselves in Chicago's Second City.
According to an interview in Vanity Fair, the couple fell in love after spending just a day together at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. After dating for seven years, the couple finally had a Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony.
They now have two daughters and have been married for 11 years.
Richmond has occasionally acted in bit roles but he now composes the score for Fey's own TV creation, '30 Rock.'
Meryl Streep met her husband Don Gummer through her brother Harry, who was friends with Gummer. Gummer, was out of the country and Streep was staying at his apartment until he came back into town. Apparently, Gummer came back early and the two quickly fell in love.
Gummer, a sculptor, and Streep have been married for more than 33 years and have four children together.
When Streep won her third Oscar for 'The Iron Lady,' she gushed about Gummer during her acceptance speech. 'Everything I value most in our lives, you've given me.'
After dating Jennifer Aniston during the shooting of their film 'The Break-Up' Vince Vaughn and Aniston did just that. Vaughn then moved on to Canadian real estate agent Kyla Weber and married her in 2010.
The 'Wedding Crashers' actor seems to be happy--he told Ellen that he 'met the best girl in the world' that gave him purpose in his life. He also said that if he had met her earlier, he would have 'done it a long time ago.'
Funnyman Conan O'Brien met his wife Liza Powel in 2000 when he was still killing it on 'Late Night.' Powel was working as a copywriter at Foote, Cone & Belding and appeared in a skit about the ad agency.
Since then, the couple got married in 2002 and had two children. Powel has told People Magazine that O'Brien is a great father and actually quite the 'softie.'
'Grey's Anatomy' star Ellen Pompeo didn't go the Hollywood acting route to find love but she did pick someone from another artistic industry. Music producer Chris Ivery and Pompeo actually met at grocery store in L.A.
In the words of all the cast members on 'Grey's Anatomy': Seriously.
The couple married four years later and now have a daughter together. Pompeo told People she loved having someone to share everything with. Her and Ivery, she says, have a 'strong bond ... He's just a real companion.'
'NCIS: Los Angeles' star Chris O'Donnell met his wife Caroline Fentress in college and hasn't been with anyone else since.
The actor met Fentress, an elementary school teacher, while he was living in the same building as her brother. O'Donnell told Redbook that when he saw her, he 'knew there was something special about her from that moment.'
The couple married three years later and now have five kids.
When Jerry Seinfeld met Tommy Hilfiger public relations executive Jessica Sklar at the Reebok Sports Club in New York, she had just gotten back from her honeymoon.
But that didn't stop the couple. The two were married in 1988 and have three children together. Sklar has now released two books about healthy eating habits for children as well as starting and participating in several charitable foundations.
'The Hunger Games' star met her husband, sportswriter and producer Max Handelman, on her first day of college at University of Pennsylvania in 1992.
The two waited to get married until 2003 and welcomed a child via surrogate in 2011. During an interview about their wedding in InStyle, Banks talked about how Handelman proposed unexpectedly after 10 years, 'He said that after 10 years, he owed it to me to completely surprise me.'
The couple used letters they wrote each other during their first year of dating as their vows.
