10 American Cities Struggling With Foreclosures

In May, there were 205,990 foreclosure filings on U.S. properties,¬†according to latest foreclosure report from Realty Trac. That’s up 9 per cent from April, but down 4 per cent from a year ago,¬†More worrisome though, May foreclosure starts (default notices or scheduled foreclosure auctions) jumped 16 per cent from a year ago, after 27 straight months of year-over-year declines.

We drew on RealtyTrac data to put together the 10 metropolitan areas where foreclosure activity remains high.

Note: All data is for the 20 largest metros. The metros are ranked by foreclosure activity and all data is for May 2012.
