Business travel is getting a revamp.
New data from Airbnb has shows thousands of companies are using the service, changing the habits of traditional business travellers.
More than 5,000 businesses have used Airbnb for Business — a dashboard for businesses to coordinate bookings — since it launched in July in 2015. It has provided service to more than 50,000 employees in over 2,000 cities around the world.
The most-used destination for business travellers booking through Airbnb is San Francisco, followed by London and New York.
Other cities that made it in Airbnb’s top 10 included Milan, Tokyo and Munich. Half of the cities are in the United States, showing that the activity for the platform is still heavily skewed towards its home country.
The list was comprised of cities “that conduct a lot of business and are often enterprise hubs” with other factors such as “cheaper rent, accessibility to other businesses and comfortable/liveable locations” contributing to its popularity.
“Businesses have clearly been longing for a better way to manage their employees’ travel needs and business travellers seem eager for change from the traditional business travel accommodations,” said Chip Conley, Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy at Airbnb.
Here are the favourite cities for business travellers and some of the most popular listings for each city.
