30 eye-watering photos of an Australian surfer's winning ride of the year on huge waves

West Australian big wave surfer Mick Corbett has taken out the two of the most prestigious awards at the 2015-16 Oakley Big Wave Awards.

Corbett took on an epic wave at an offshore break known as “The Right” in West Australian to take out both the Biggest Slab category and the overall Ride Of The Year Award, which came with a $20,000 cash prize.

Zac Haynes and Justin Holland took second and third place respectively in Ride Of The Year.

The location where Corbett scored his monster wave is considered one of the world’s biggest and most dangerous breaks.

There to captured the entire surf was photographer Chris Gurney. In 30 magical shots, Gurney’s photos show the progression of the ride, now considered the best of the years.
